In charge of

  • the execution of WP5. Testing in the field of dental medicine

    Main tasks of the team:

    1.   characterization of the remineralization properties of materials synthesized according to the present project, on enamel lesions created on purpose and demineralization of dentin (model studies);
    2.   study of their reparative properties on the remineralization of demineralized collagen fibres of dentin;
    3.   assessment of their applicability in clinic situations.

  • The team includes five lecturers, which are working on the active treatment of hard dental tissues, tooth pulp and treatment of the root canals:

    Prof. R. Vassileva is the team leader. She is a head of the Chair of Conservative treatment since 2010. Author and co-author of more than 111 papers in Bulgarian and international journals and participations at national and international congresses. Supervisor of four PhD students (one successfully defended his thesis).

    Projects: Participant in 3 international and 7 national projects (within the Cuoncil for medical science of MU-Sofia, one infrastructural). Participant in teams examining new adhesive systems of ESPE, Dentsply, Vivadent and VOCO (dental companies), part of the German working group at the ISO-commission for norms and standards. The study yielded a new product on the dental market – Prompt®L-Pop (ESPE). In charge for the execution of WP5.

    Area of expertise:Microleakage of direct and indirect composite resin restorations; methods for testing the biocompatibility of composite resins – cell cultures and laboratory animal’s experiments; factors, influencing the adhesion of new adhesive systems – shear bond strength testing and SEM observation. Managing exposed dentin and pulp – animal tests and clinical trials

  • microtome for tooth sections,
  • stereomicroscope for microscopic analysis of dental specimens,
  • thermal cycling apparatus.

    A large base for clinical work, equipped with modern instrumentation is also available.
